How to reorder fields in an Airtable Interface
You are working with a grid Interface in Airtable. The records look fine, but you want to move the fields around.
In other words, you want to rearrange the columns so they appear in a different order.
Naturally, you try to drag the columns left and right, the same way you can in a table. But nothing happens. The fields stay where they are.
So how do you reorder them in an Interface?
When you are just viewing the Interface, there is no way to change the order of fields. You cannot drag them around like you can in a normal table.
If you want to change the order, you need to go into the Interface editor.
Click into edit mode, then select the table element in your Interface. A panel will open on the right side.
Inside this panel, look for the “Fields” section. You will see a list of all the fields currently displayed.
Each field has a small handle on the left. Use that handle to drag fields up or down to set the order you want. The Interface will update to match your new arrangement.
That’s it.
It would be useful to have a feature where fields could be reordered directly in the Interface itself, whether you are viewing or editing.
This way, people who are only viewing could adjust the order in a way that feels comfortable to them, while the editor’s arrangement would serve as the default starting point.
For now, this is not possible. The settings panel in the Interface editor is the only way to control the order of fields.
