Why Airtable Emails Sent from the Send Email Automation Action Show Swapped To and CC Addresses

You’re using Airtable automations to send emails with the Send Email action.

The automation is set up so the customer is in the To field and your address is in CC. Since your address is in CC, the email is also delivered to you.

When you check the email in your inbox, it shows your address in the To field and the customer in CC, even though the automation was configured the other way around. The addresses in the To and CC fields have swapped.

To and CC fields have swapped

Does this mean Airtable is sending the email incorrectly? Is this a bug in Airtable?

What you are seeing is actually just a visual issue. This is completely normal and does not indicate a problem with your automation.

Airtable sends the email exactly as configured in the To and CC fields. When the email is received, the recipient’s email client displays the addresses differently.

The recipient will see their own email address in the To field. Any other addresses included in the automation, whether in To or CC, will appear under CC in their inbox.

So if your customer is the main recipient in the To field, their email client will automatically show their address in To. Any other addresses you included, like your CC, will appear under CC.

You can also refer to the Airtable documentation, which confirms this behavior.

In short, what you are seeing is normal behavior for Airtable automations, and the emails will be delivered exactly as you configured them.
