How to Let Users Add New Options in Single Select Fields in Airtable Forms

If you’ve ever tried to rearrange your columns directly inside an Airtable List or Grid view by dragging them around, you’ve probably realized it doesn’t work.

You can reorder records and adjust field widths, but drag and drop for column order just isn’t supported right now.

But you can still reorder fields using Airtable’s built-in options. So let’s look at how you can do it

Reordering Fields in a List View

In a List view, column order is managed through the Customize rows panel.

Click the Customize rows option in the toolbar. You’ll see a list of all fields currently displayed in your List view. On the right-hand side of each field, there’s a small drag handle.

Use that handle to drag and drop the fields into your preferred order. Once you’re done, the List view will update to reflect the new sequence.

Reordering Fields in a Grid View

In a Grid view, the process is a little different. Open the Hide fields panel by clicking the Hide button at the top of your view.

You’ll see a list of all fields, both visible and hidden. Just like in the List view, use the handles on the right to drag and drop fields into the order you want.

This determines the column order in your Grid view once you close the panel.

Reordering Fields in an Interface

If you’re working in an Interface instead of a base view, you can also reorder fields from the Fields section in the right-hand configuration panel.

When you open a List or Grid element in your Interface, click on Fields and drag the items there to change their display order.
